Basketball- Varsity Girls SCISA Region Tournament

Greenwood Christian

The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated the Hawks from Greenwood Christian in the first round of the SCISA Region tournament by a score of 64-26.

The Griffins came out roaring in the first quarter outscoring the Lady Hawks 19-4 after one quarter of play. The Griffins kept the momentum going during the second quarter and on into the second half. The final score was 64-26 in favor of the Griffins.
The Griffin scorers were lead by Junior Lauren Oakes with 19 points. Junior Kathleen Babb scored 18 points while senior Kate McBride added 12 points. Sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein added 8 points and Senior Kaylee Owens chipped 3 points. Junior Joanna Burgess and sophomore Lauren Lee scored 2 points a piece to round out the Griffin scorers.
Spartanburg Christian Academy
The varsity girls’ basketball team defeated the Warriors of Spartanburg Christian Academy by a score of 45-37.
The Griffins found themselves down 9-3 after one quarter of play as the Warriors were able to capitalize on their first quarter baskets.
The Griffins increased their intensity and settled their nerves in the second and third quarter outscoring the Warriors 34-13 during those quarters.
The Griffins were able to hold off a late Warriors run to win the contest 45-37.
The Griffins scorers were lead by Senior Kaylee Owens with 11 points. Junior Lauren Oakes and Sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein added 10 points and 8 points respectively. Senior Kate McBride scored 7 points while Junior Kathleen Babb chipped in 6 points. Sophomore Lauren Lee added 3 points to round out the Griffin scorers.
