Basketball- Varsity Girls play Greenwood Christian, SCA, Oakbrook, Carolina Day, and Shannon Forest

Greenwood Christian School

The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls’ Basketball team defeated the Hawks from Greenwood Christian School by a score of 60-25.

The Griffins found themselves in a first half battle with the Lady Hawks taking a slim 24-18 lead into the half.
Spartanburg Day shook off the first half woes and roared to a 35 point second half, only allowing Greenwood Christian 7 second half points, including a 1 point fourth quarter. The final score was 60-25 in favor of the Griffins.
The Griffin were led by sophomore Lauren Lee with 15 points. Senior Kate McBride and junior Lauren Oakes both scored 10 points apiece. Sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein added 9 points while Senior Kaylee Owens chipped in 8 points. Junior Kathleen Babb scored 6 points. Freshman Caroline Simon scored 2 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

Spartanburg Christian Academy

The Spartanburg Day school varsity Girls’ basketball team defeated the Warriors of Spartanburg Christian Academy by a score of 48-36 Friday night.

The Griffins came out the gate roaring, turning the Warriors miscues into Griffin points. The Griffins started the game on a 9-0 run, and took a double digit lead into the half.
The second half was a battle of wills as both teams traded baskets. The Griffins were able to maintain their lead and won the game 48-36.
The Griffins scorers were led by junior Lauren Oakes with 15 points. Sophomore Lauren Lee added 13 points, while senior Kaylee Owens scored 10 points. Senior Kate McBride chipped in 4 points. Junior Kathleen Babb, sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein, and freshman Hannah Babb all scored 2 points a piece to round out the Griffin scorers.

Oakbrook Preparatory School

The Spartanburg Day school varsity girls’ basketball team defeated the Knights of Oakbrook Prep by a score of 52-36 Tuesday night.

Thanks to quick foul trouble, the Griffins trailed 7-4 after one quarter of the play. However, the Griffins did not let that obstacle hinder their spirit. The Griffins turned up the intensity in the second quarter notching 20 points in the quarter and taking a 24-19 lead.
The Griffins and the Knights traded baskets through the third quarter, however the Griffins used a 17-7 fourth quarter to win the contest 52-36.
The Griffin scorers were led by Junior Lauren Oakes with 20 points. Senior Kate McBride scored 10 points. Senior Kaylee Owens and Sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein both notched 8 points a piece. Sophomore Lauren Lee added 5 points and Junior Joanna Burgess scored 1 point to round out the Griffin scorers.
Carolina Day School
The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls’ basketball team were defeated by Carolina Day by a score of 63-34.
The Griffins fought courageously as they used aggressive defensive and offensive plays to stay in striking distance with Carolina Day. The Griffins were down 11 at the half.
Carolina Day proved too much in the second half, yet the Griffins were still able to notch double digit scoring in both the third and fourth quarters.
The Griffin scorers were led by junior Lauren Oakes and sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein who both had 12 points a piece. Senior Kaylee Owens and Sophomore Lauren Lee both scored 4 points a piece. Junior Kathleen Babb chipped in 2 points to round out the Griffin scorers.

Shannon Forest Christian School

The Spartanburg Day School varsity girls’ basketball team defeated the Crusaders from Shannon Forest Christian School by a score of 69-37.

The Griffins and Crusaders traded basket for basket in an exciting first quarter of basketball. The score after one quarter was 16-16.
The Griffins were able to settle down in the remaining three quarters and were able to extend the lead each quarter, out scoring the Crusaders 53-21 in the final three quarters.
The Griffin scorers were led by junior Lauren Oakes with 20 points. Senior Kate McBride added 17 points while sophomore Lauren Lee chipped in 11 points. Junior Kathleen Babb added 8 points and Senior Kaylee Owens scored 7 points. Freshman Maggie Genoble scored 3 points. Junior Joanna Burgess and sophomore Ariana Muehlenbein both scored 2 points a piece to round out the Griffin scores.
