This year is the year of the Rooster, and the Chinese students at the Day School hosted a celebration on the day of Chinese New Year to welcome the coming of the new year. The celebration was held in the Dining Commons of the school, where host families and Chinese exchange students alike shared Chinese culture. Various traditional Chinese meals were prepared (yummy!), and the celebration included many other aspects of traditional celebration including the Red Pocket and other decorative objects.
The Red Pocket – gifts containing money!
The students also prepared presentations on the meaning and different aspects of Chinese New Year, while hosting other activities such as singing the combination of Chinese and American songs. Thanks to the efforts of many people who helped in setting up such a celebration, students shared the Chinese culture with their host parents and siblings while also offering the exchange students a sense of being at home and celebrating this holiday and festival with their families.
